Fintech in Zurich: 2026 Landscape

Zurich's fintech ecosystem at a glance — wealthtech, infrastructure, digital assets, and the firms shaping each category.

Zurich's fintech ecosystem is smaller than London's or Berlin's by absolute headcount, but unusually dense in deep-tech and infrastructure plays. This guide is a working map of where the activity sits and where the next wave is forming.

Why Zurich, not Zug, for most fintechs

Zug dominates pure crypto and digital-asset infrastructure for tax and regulatory reasons. Everything else — wealthtech, payments, RegTech — gravitates to Zurich because that is where the customers (the banks) live. The split between the two cities is one of the clearest in European fintech.

Capital and exits

Most Swiss fintech rounds are early- to mid-stage and led by a mix of local VC (Redalpine, Lakestar, Index Ventures with a CH footprint) and European or US growth funds. Exits are mostly trade sales to incumbent banks, asset managers, or larger fintech consolidators; IPOs remain rare.

Frequently asked

Common questions

How many fintech companies are there in Switzerland?

Roughly 400 active companies as of 2025, per the IFZ Fintech Study, with Zurich and Zug holding the largest clusters.

Is Zurich a good place to start a fintech?

Yes, with caveats. The customer density (banks, asset managers, insurers) is excellent, but the local market is small — most Zurich fintechs are international from day one.
